Goals Update and Weekly Round-Up #10

Do you set specific goals for yourself this year? How are you doing on them so far? Some of my goals for 2012 are a bit lofty, but I bet that with a lot of hard work and consistency, I can achieve them all!

My Goals for 2012

This site is still basically brand new, but I have some big plans for 2012!

  1. Be on the first page of Google for the searched phrase, “Passive Income”, and “Creating a Passive Income”
  2. Gain 250 subscribers
  3. Maintain a Page Rank of 3
  4. Have 40,000 visits to this site in 2012
  5. Earn $5,000 from this site alone

How Am I Doing So Far?

1) First Page of Google:

  • My rank was at #80 at one point, then it made a sharp decline to #154, but now I am pleased to say that I’m sitting at #50 for the phrase, “passive income”! I have been revamping my page to make it SEO friendly and I recently got a bump in my mozRank which may have helped this spike in the ranks as well. I expect my rank to go up and down, but I hope to see it in the 30s next week, since I’ll be improving the site a little bit more (for SEO purposes) throughout this week.
  • The phrase “Creating a Passive Income” ranked #4 last week and I’m still holding steady. I can’t wait to move into the top 3 spots for this phrase! I bet that would increase my numbers quite noticeably!

2) 250 Subscribers:

  • I ran a $100 Amazon Gift Card Promotion the last couple of weeks and my subscriber numbers are now at 74! This means that I’m already about 30% of the way to my goal of 250! This is pretty exciting – maybe I’ll reach my goal by mid-year already, who knows!? :)

3) Maintain a Page Rank of 3

  • Well, the Google day of reckoning has come and gone, and guess what? I’m still a PR3! Once I increase my visitors and add some more content, this site is going to be worth some serious change!

4) Have 40,000 Visits

  • So far this year, I’ve had 1,335 visitors. My traffic from week to week hasn’t really changed much. In order to get some real traffic from my target keywords, I’ll have to get them on the first page of Google. In the meantime, I’ll just keep writing and building up content!

5) Earn $5,000

  • So far, I have not made any deals with advertisers and have only earned an income with Adsense -  a whopping $7.81. My site is gaining trust and popularity on the web though, so I plan on reaching out to advertisers this month and should see an increase in ad income.

  1. Thanks for the mention and congratulations on making some good progress on those goals.

    • Derek says:

Thanks CFM! It feels good to know I’m headed in the right direction. Plus it gives me more motivation to do even better!

  2. Passive income is so intriguing…it’s something I want to learn more about. After blogging for several years now (3 years this month!) I can honestly say that blogging is not a passive income stream:).

    • Derek says:

Passive income is incredibly intriguing to me as well (obviously)! While blogging may not seem passive, it certainly could be. What takes up the majority of your time right now as a blogger? Most likely it’s writing the posts and responding to emails and comments. If you begin to purchase some articles and hire someone to handle your emails and comments, suddenly, your blogging business is mostly passive! It’s just a matter of perspective.

Thanks for the links, I really appreciate it. I am still searching for truly passive income. It is similar to the perfect job. Somewhat elusive, but possible part of the time.

    • Derek says:

Passive income certainly is possible, but you’re right, it’s not always easy to create (which is the reason for this site)! Keep following along and I’ll continue to come up with passive income ideas for you.

  4. Thanks for the mention! Great progress with CAPI and the content is spot on! I know it’s a new site like mine but I think think your results are very strong.

    • Derek says:

My main goal is to target those highly searched target keywords! Once I figure out how to get on the first page of Google, this site have a great chance of earning some serious passive income.

  5. Thanks for the mention! You’ve got some great goals set – lofty, but attainable. With little income right now, it’s the goals that’ll keep you motivated!

We’ve earned $4.10 to date on our blog! So your $7.81 isn’t looking too shabby =P

    • Derek says:

Keep up the awesome work on your blog! You’ll most likely plug along month after month with only $10 to show for it, but all of the sudden advertisers will start flooding your inbox and your monthly earnings will go from $10 to $100 to $400 to over $1,000 a month! It really is crazy how fast it can grow – you just have to be patient for the next 8-12 months. Best of luck to ya! :)

  6. Kacie says:

Great goals, and good luck reaching them! Thanks for including me.

    • Derek says:

Thanks for the well-wishes Kacie! They are pretty tough goals, but I bet I can reach each and every one of them!

  7. Cley says:

I love your goals! :) It only shows that you have really plans for yourself.. Thanks for sharing this! Keep up the good work!

    • Derek says:

I do have some great plans for this website, and I’m happy to share them! Hopefully it will help out my readers as well! :)

  8. Thanks for the article mention in your roundup!

These are some pretty aggressive goals but you seem to be attacking them the right way and I would be pretty confident that when the end of the year rolls around you will have surpassed them. Good luck!

    • Derek says:

I would love to report to everyone that I met 100% of my goals at the end of the year, but even if it doesn’t happen, I know that my blog will be a success because I’ve made a constant push for the entire year! :) Thanks for the comment!
